Fantasy romance is often known for its epic love stories, destined mates, and sweeping romances.

But some of my favorite relationships aren’t romantic at all.

In Trial By Firebird, one of the most important people in Kate Adrasteia’s life is her best friend, Ana. Their friendship began long before the events of the story and has survived despite the secrets, challenges, and differences between them.

While Kate struggles with memories of past lives, family responsibilities, and the complications of immortality, Ana remains a constant source of support. She’s the friend who asks the hard questions, offers honest advice, and reminds Kate that she doesn’t have to carry every burden alone.

I believe strong friendships are just as important as strong romances.

A soulmate may change your life, but a true friend helps you survive it.

Female friendships in fantasy are especially important because they remind us that women don’t have to compete with one another to be interesting. They can support, encourage, challenge, and inspire each other.

Kate’s journey in Trial By Firebird would not be the same without Ana’s presence. Their friendship provides laughter during difficult moments, comfort during painful ones, and a reminder that family isn’t always defined by blood.

Sometimes the people who know us best are the friends who choose to stay.

And those relationships can be every bit as powerful as the greatest romance.
